Homemade Egg Dye. Place a single layer of eggs in a non-metal pot with the dye (see next slides for colors and sources). Check out my DIY Easter Egg Dye.
It's so easy to make, hardly costs anything to make, and still gives beautiful results. The oil will repel color in some places and the dye will adhere in others, creating a marbled effect. I'm not a neon kind of girl.
The folk custom of dyeing eggs in festive, bright colors may be an adaptation of pagan fertility and rebirth celebrations.
Some of my fondest memories of the holiday were smelling vinegar and watching those little tablets sizzle.
We like to color them a few days before, and then display them on the table for Easter brunch. You're about to color Easter eggs and realized you don't have an Egg Coloring Kit. Prettier, more natural egg colors in my opinion.
